Richard (Dick) Lloyd Sapp, 83 of Fruitland Park, Fl. departed to be with our Lord on November 13, 2025 at home cared for by family, friends and Visiting Angels. He was born on August 26, 1942 in Julesburg, Co. and died from two major strokes.
Dick's father was a flight instructor for the Navy in WWII. After returning home to Julesburg after the war he felt the calling to become a preacher. He moved his family to Norfolk, Ne. to enroll in Nebraska Christian College. After graduation, the family moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa starting a new church. Dick graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School. He then returned to Norfolk as a student for 2 years before transferring to the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. At that point he enlisted in the Navy and became an F8 Crusader jet fighter pilot excelling in arial combat. His final deployment was to Roosevelt Roads in Puerto Rico.
Feeling the desire to finish his Christian Theology degree he returned to Norfolk, Ne. Nebraska Christian College in 1969 where he met Beverly who was also attending NCC. They were married June 5, 1970. Dick and Beverly enjoyed 55 years together starting in Norfolk and moving to Florida in 1984.
Dick grew up around airplanes. His Dad always had a small plane and Dick had a pilot license before he was old enough for his driver's license. After his career in the Navy, Dick had a variety of flying jobs including flight instructor, flight examiner, crop duster, charter pilot, and corporate pilot for several companies. He flew for Doug Dudley of Norfolk, Ne., F. Browne Gregg in Leesburg, Fl., and Gary Morse of The Villages. He also was an instructor at SimCom in Orlando known to all as "Uncle Dick".
Dick maintained his swimming pool for the enjoyment of his children and then his grandchildren teaching them the finer points of diving, can openers, and cannonballs.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Lloyd Milton Sapp and Loretta Opal (Filatreau) Sapp and his son in law, Bill Jones. He is survived by his wife, Beverly and their five children, Brian Sapp, Robin and (Jamie Woods), Amanda Jones, all of Leesburg, Fl., Anthony and (Kristen) Sapp of Middleton, Fl. and Veronica and (Chris Kidd) of Wichita, Ks. Dick adored their thirteen beautiful grandchildren.
A memorial service for Richard will be held at Grace EPC in Leesburg, FL on December 1, 2025 at 9:30 AM. Following the service, he will be inurned at the Florida National Cemetery at Dade Battlefield.
