Richard Saxton Obituary

Richard Leigh Saxton

March 17, 1937 - July 8, 2024

Independence, Missouri - Richard "Dick" Saxton passed away on July 8, 2024, at his home. Dick was born on March 17, 1937, in Joplin, Missouri. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kathryn; children Mark, Scott, Lisa (Drew), Don, and David; five grandchildren; and, three great-grandchildren. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Lois; his brother, Michael; and, his youngest child, Stephen. Dick was a member of Connection Point Church, formerly Raytown Baptist.

Dick attended the University of Missouri-Columbia and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. Upon graduation, Dick worked at Armco Steel as an Electrical Engineer and later became Supervising Works Engineer, earned his Professional Engineering License and a Master Electrician's License. He retired from Armco after 34 years of service.

Dick loved to automate equipment and systems to keep struggling steel and automotive plants productive. He was an avid golfer and won the Bella Vista Senior Club Championship in 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2017. He baked delicious pies and was known for his apple dumplings. He was a true patriot and loved his country.

The family would like to especially thank Dr. David Wilt and HCA Hospice & Family Care for their support during Dick's cancer journey. In honor of Dick's wishes there will be a private gravesite burial in Bella Vista, Arkansas.

I worked with Dick at Armco and always had great respect for him as an Engineer and as a person. I especially enjoyed his dry wit and humor. He was one of the good ones.

The best memories are those trips South of KC. my Father took me to; to Branson & Bella Vista when I was just a kid. I enjoyed swimming at the pools, playing mini golf. Fishing (wasn´t my favorite). The thing I liked most was when he taught me how to water ski, loved the fresh air on my face and in my hair, the smells- smells of the lake, and the speed of the boat. Very grateful for that childhood experience.
Very fun. Thanks dad.
