Richard "Dick" M. Schendel, 82, of Merino, CO, went to Heaven to join his daughter Suzy and many family and friends on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Per his request cremation has taken place and a celebration of life will be held from 1-3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 17 at Sterling Elks Lodge.

Richard was born May 30, 1942, in Norcross, MN to Vern E. and Ruby (Hubin) Schendel. Dick married Sandra Lee Dower on July 25, 1965. After retiring from teaching for over 30 years in Logan County, Dick and Sandy traveled around the world and enjoyed seeing many countries and sights.

Dick was a longtime member of the Sterling Elks Lodge #1336 for over 61 years. He was also very active in the communities serving at Merino Methodist Church, Merino School Board, Merino Town Council, Merino sports fan, Merino Pitch Players Club (MPPC), the Old Farts & New Parts Club, Lions Club, South Platte Education Association and Friday Dinner Friends at the Elks. Dick and Sandy enjoyed bowling and golfing at Riverview Golf Course.

Dick is survived by his wife Sandra; son Andy (Deena) Schendel, son-in-law Todd Barger; grandchildren Adam (Logan) Schendel, Drew Schendel (Julie Brown), Zach Barger, Lauren Barger and fiancé Stefan; and great grandchildren Braydon, Tinsley, Duane, Emily and Suede Schendel and Landon Schendel.

Memorial contributions may be made in Dick's memory to Sterling Elks Lodge or Merino Athletic Program.
