Richard A. Scherrer, age 90, of Peabody, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Friday, July 18, 2025. He was the husband of the late Lois E. (Dresser) Scherrer.
Born and raised in Canastota, New York, he was the son of the late Emile and Elsie (Taylor) Scherrer and stepson of Gladys Scherrer. Prior to moving to the Kaplan Estates in Peabody, he had lived in Lynn, Massachusetts, East Wakefield, New Hampshire, and Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Richard was a US Navy Veteran, serving from August of 1954 through August of 1962 as a Hospital Corpsman Third Class. He worked as an Air Freight Manager for United Airlines until his retirement.
He loved his family and is survived by a daughter Lynne Beaton and her husband George of Lynn, MA, a son Richard A. Scherrer Jr. and his wife Maura of Lynn, MA, a sister Judy (Scherrer) Pexton of Canastota, NY, his grandchildren Tia Pittman and her partner Naomi Marrero, Jessica Pittman and her partner Anthony Stallworth all of Lynn, MA, Tracey Friedman and her husband Brian of Amesbury, MA, and Stephanie Walker and her husband Nathan of Atkinson, NH, his great-grandchildren Traevon Bruton, Jahzara Pittman, Anthony Stallworth, Anderson R. Walker, William A. Walker, Benjamin L. Walker, and Cecilia C. Friedman, a sister-in-law Marjorie Clay, and a brother-in-law Laurence Clay of Port St. Lucie, FL. He was the brother of the late Carol (Scherrer) Langsworthy and her husband Leland Langsworthy, and the brother-in-law of the late Douglas Pexton and Orazio and Lillian Voci. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Richard cherished the simple joys of life-especially the time he spent with Lois. He adored his wife and always spoke of her with warmth and reverence. Some of his happiest memories were of the two of them sitting side by side by the pool in Florida, enjoying the sunshine, sharing quiet conversations, and simply being together. His love for her was deep and enduring, and their bond remained the center of his heart even after her passing.
At his request, services are private. The burial will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
