Ishpeming- Richard A. Schiemann, age 84, Ishpeming Township resident, passed away on Wednesday April 12, 2023 at UP Health System Bell while in the loving care of his family, and hospital staff.
Richard was born on August 6, 1938 in Alites, Lithuania son of the late Alexander and Isabella (Zakewitz) Schiemann. He and his family lived in Lithuania until he was four years old when they moved back to Germany. Rick grew up in Germany until the age of 16 when he moved to the United States. He enlisted and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Era. Rick attended the Milwaukee Institute of Technology where he studied computer aided design. He worked at Metso in Milwaukee, and transferred to Pennsylvania where he finished his career. Rick was married to Karen Salminen for 40 years, following her passing in 2004, he moved to Ishpeming where he resided ever since.
Rick enjoyed going fishing, doing yardwork, and gardening. He always had beautiful flower gardens that he meticulously maintained in his backyard.
Rick is survived by 2 siblings- Lydia Snyder of Denver, CO, Arnold Schiemann of Germany, sister-in-law- Lynn (John) Nardi, along with numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends and neighbors Karen Champion, Nicole and Bob Hyry, who helped for no reason but goodness of heart. Richard was blessed by his neighbors. He was preceded in death by his parents, and wife Karen.
Following Rick's wishes, cremation will take place with a graveside service at the Humboldt Cemetery at a later date.
