Our beloved mother and Oma, was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Mother's Day, May 11, 2025 at the age of 96. She resided at Kernway Assisted Living of Bloomfield Hills, Michigan for 7 1/2 years until her passing.
Magdalene was born on February 12, 1929, in Lodz, Poland, to her German parents, Adolf and Else (Behnke) Rist. In 1951, she emigrated with her brother, Walter, by boat, went through Ellis Island and settled in Detroit. Magdalene met Gerhard Schiemann at the Connor Avenue Baptist Church in Detroit, and they married in 1953. In 1958, she became a U.S. citizen.
Magdalene and Gerhard went on to have two children, Marvin (Mitra) and Ingrid (Michael) Martin. They blessed them with five grandchildren, Jonathon Schienke, Janelle (David) Jones, Leslie (Brandon Hunt), Kyle (Emily Haus) and Laila. Her grandchildren were her greatest joy, and she loved them dearly. She was, also, blessed with two great grandchildren, Piper and Tommy Jones, along with Kyle and Emily expecting her third great grandchild in July.
Magdalene is preceded in death by her husband, Gerhard, her parents and her siblings, Theodore, Else Elizabeth, Harry, George and Walter.
Magdalene loved the Lord deeply. Her desire was to "go home" for many years. Rest easy, Oma, for the Lord has said "welcome home."
Memorial contributions are certainly appreciated and may be made to the Alzheimer's Association https://www.alz.org/gmc
