Dick grew up Dundee. He was a Life scout in the Boy Scouts and attended the 1960 Boy Scout Jamboree. He was a member of the 1962 Wolverine Boys State. He retired December 31, 2000 after 35 years of service. He became an associate at the local Radio Shack, where he developed a lasting friendship with Jeffrey Pask.
He is survived by his love and a soul mate Karen Johnston, son Michael Schultz and grandson Keegan, and son Matthew Schultz (Sam Zielienski), and bonus children: Kimberly Russ, Pamela (Michael) Masters, and Matthew Edward 'Red' (Dawn) Johnston, and bonus grandchildren; Brittany (Nick) Norris (and daughter Ophelia), Zachary Smith, Kari (Justin) Pomije (children Michael and Eliana), Army Captain Dr. Amy Masters, Nicole Smith, Matthew (Holly) Johnston (children Levi and Joey), Hannah Masters, and Drew Johnston.
