Richard L. Scrivener, 83, of Sun City, Georgetown, TX, died July 4th, 2014, at Scott and White Hospital, in Temple, TX. Born on January 16, 1931 in Asheville, North Carolina to Norman and Janet Scrivener, and graduating High School in Ashland, Virginia in 1949, he then served in the Korean War as a Sonar man in the U.S. Navy. He met and married his wife of 57 years, Patricia McCutcheon Scrivener, while attending Texas Tech University. After graduating with a degree in Geology, ʻDickʼ and ʻPatʼ moved to Maryland, where he worked as a civilian geophysicist for the Naval Oceanographic Office, and was then a Supervisory Geophysicist. He transferred to the U.S. Geological Survey in 1970, working in Metairie, LA, where he retired (in 1987) as the Regional Supervisor of Resource Evaluation for the Minerals Management Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior. In this position he supervised Federal oil and gas leasing in the Gulf of Mexico. He was awarded a ʻDistinguished Scientistʼ recognition by the U.S. government. A resident of Sun City since June 1997, Dick was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Georgetown, the Naval Institute, the Navy League, and the Tin Can Sailors Association. He is survived by beloved wife, Pat, son Rev. Randy Scrivener, daughter-in-law Naomi and grandson Nathan; by his daughter Leah Langston and son-in-law Hal Langston; by his brother Henry Scrivener and sisters-in-law Bonnie and Jane Scrivener, and Judith McCutcheon; and by nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by brother, John Scrivener and brother-in-law Clinton McCutcheon. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, Georgetown, TX, The American Heart Association, or a charity of your choice. Visitation will be held from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at First United Methodist prior to the 2:00 p.m. Funeral Service 410 E. University, Georgetown, Texas 78633.
