Richard N. "Sonny" Shadle, 83, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, March 15, 2025, in Carlisle.
Born on November 5, 1941 he was the son of the late Clarence and Alma (Bordner) Shadle.
After graduating from Susquehanna Township High School in 1960, Sonny was drafted into the United States Army, where he proudly served his country until his honorable discharge. Sonny was a cook in the US Army and enjoyed making meals for family and friends. He found his place at Fort Sill in Oklahoma as the head cook until he returned home; he had many jobs after leaving AMP, Inc. Sonny was well-known for his amazing cooking skills, and he always found a way to make sure everyone had a hearty meal, while also cleverly ensuring someone else took care of the dishes.
Sonny had a passion for collecting coins and cherished spending time with his friends and loved ones at his hunting camp. It was there that he once again ensured everyone was well-fed and in good spirits. His warmth, humor, and generous nature left a lasting impression on all who had the pleasure of spending time with him.
He is survived by his beloved sisters, Barbara Gordy, Karen Clouser and husband Fred; cherished brother, James "Jim" Shadle; and many treasure nieces, nephews and cousins.
Sonny was preceded in death by his brothers, Charles M. Shadle, Sr., Clarence Shadle; sisters, Margaret Rhoads, Dorothy Shadle, Carrie Wevodau; and brother-in-law, John Wolfe.
Viewing will begin at 12:00 PM at Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, before procession to the cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery on Monday, March 31, 2025 at 2:00 P.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Sonny to the New Bloomfield VFW, 71 Soule Rd, New Bloomfield, PA 17068.
