A Memorial Mass for Richard Shelhamer, age 86, of O'Neill will be 10:30 am Saturday, March 1, 2025 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in O'Neill. Inurnment will follow in the O'Neill Cemetery. Fr. Ross Burkhalter will officiate. Visitation will be 5-7 pm Friday, February 28, 2025 with a 7:00 pm Parish Rosary at Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill. Richard passed away on Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at his home in O'Neill. Memorials may be directed to his family for future designation. Arrangements are entrusted to Biglin's Mortuary in O'Neill.
Richard Lee Shelhamer was born February 7, 1939 to Roy and Verdella (Benda) Shelhamer in O'Neill, Nebraska. He grew up in O'Neill and has been a resident his whole life. Richard graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1958.
After high school Richard owned and operated Shelhamer Petroleum, Shelhamer Transport Company, and Fox's Food Plaza and Taco John's in O'Neill. He met Margaret "Peg" Sullivan and the couple married on June 15, 1963 in O'Neill.
He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Richard enjoyed boating and most of all enjoyed attending his grandchildren's activities.
Richard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Peg Shelhamer of O'Neill; daughters, Carrie Hahlbeck of O'Neill, Laurie (Greg) Hansen of Amelia; three grandchildren, Brian Hahlbeck, Jason Hahlbeck, Nicholas Hansen; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Shelhamer of O'Neill; several nieces and nephews; beloved dog, Cali.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Verdella Shelhamer; brother, Paul Shelhamer; and sister, Linda Shelhamer Franklin.
