MULLINVILLE – Richard Berton Sherman, 78, died Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, Greensburg. He was born November 19, 1946 at Mullinville, the son of Richard M. and Verla M. (Keith) Sherman. He was a 1965 graduate of Mullinville High School at which time enlisted in the United States Air Force and served 5 years and did 3 tours in Southeast Asia. He was a truckdriver for 33 years both as an owner-operator as well as for other companies until retiring. He was a member of Bucklin American Legion Post 269 and loved working on and helping maintain the Round Barn south of Mullinville. He was a mechanic, builder, fixer, problem solver and tinkering. He had no tolerance for "stupid" or dishonesty. He loved his country, camping and fishing and was always willing to help someone or a critter and even after his passing, he gave the Gift of Sight by being an eye donor. He married Sharon Gordon and she preceded him in death. In June of 2007, his lifetime friend, Tamina Fromme became his companion. She survives. Other survivors include: his adopted daughter, Kimberly Dawn White, Wichita; a brother, Donne Sherman, Utah; 2 grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. He was also preceded in death by his parents, his son, Richard Brandon Sherman, 3 sisters, Connie Dargel, Clara Ann Fredde and Karol I. Gordon and a half-brother, Charles Chapman. Services are pending and will be announced at a later date. There will be no public viewing, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, Memorials are suggested to the Bucklin American Legion Post 269 or a church of your choice in care of Minnis Mortuary, 1901 N. 14th Ave., Dodge City, Kansas 67801.
