Richard Lynn Shirley, 79, of Weatherford, passed away late on Friday, July 24, 2020, at his home, following an extended illness.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., on Monday, July 27, 2020, at the Galbreaith Pickard Hilltop Chapel, 4941 E. I-20 Service Road North, in Willow Park. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, July 28, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Annetta Cemetery.
Richard was born in Grandfield, Oklahoma on July 12, 1941 to John and Edna Shirley. He worked as a tooling engineer and machinist for Bell Helicopter for 39 years. He married Kay Amerson on July 16, 1990. His children are from his previous marriage. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle all across America. He also enjoyed driving and working on old cars and boats. He was member of the Brazos River Cruisers. In earlier years, he attended the Weatherford Seventh-day Adventist Church. Richard enjoyed spending mornings having breakfast at Wanda’s Restaurant. Richard could “fix anything.” He was a ‘social’ person who loved people and was always “willing to help anyone in need.” He enjoyed social events and spending time with his family!
Richard is survived by his wife, Kay; his children, Tammy (Mark) Thompson, Richie Shirley, Darin (Tara) Shirley, and Doug Shirley; his grandchildren, Scott, Ashley, Lacy, Dane, Paige, Taylor, Kelsey, Garret, Justin, Derek, Brittany (Michael), and Jessica; great-grandchildren, Cooper, Carson, Lainey, Braxtyn, Blayke, and Dean; and by his nephews, Charles Cundiff, Billy Cundiff, and Jerry Don Mills.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sister, Gaylene Barricks.
