Richard Shubert Obituary

Published by Legacy on Feb. 27, 2026.
Richard Harold Shubert, a cherished resident of Hopewell Junction for the past 50 years, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026. He was 89 years old.

Born on September 18, 1936, in Buchanan, New York, he was the son of the late Michael and Catherine (Burris) Shubert.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying the values of honor, commitment, and dedication with him throughout his life.

On July 7, 1957, he married the love of his life, Betty Jane, at Trinity Boscobel Methodist Church. Their marriage of nearly seven decades was a testament to devotion and enduring love. Betty Jane survives at home.

Richard dedicated many years of hard work to Con Edison, retiring from the Eastview location in the Gas Department. He took great pride in providing for his family and in the friendships he built throughout his career.

An avid golfer, Richard found joy on the course, but his greatest happiness came from his family. He was a devoted husband and father who never missed a sporting event and proudly helped coach his children's soccer teams. His steady presence and encouragement meant everything to those he loved. He also had a deep affection for animals, especially his beloved Great Dane, Isolde.

In addition to his beloved wife, Richard is survived by his children: Richard James Shubert, Scott Michael Shubert (Christine), and Joanne Elizabeth Pendleton (Anthony Serrano). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Michele Young, Christopher Young, Ryan Shubert, Nicole Shubert, Samuel Pendleton, and Tina Cortes, along with several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon Lynn Young, as well as six brothers and sisters.

Memorial donations may be made in Richard's name to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org.

A graveside service will take place in the spring at Hopewell Cemetery. The date and time will be announced at a later date.
