Richard D. Sidle, age 94, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at LifeCare Hospice in Wooster, following a brief period of declining health.
Born on March 4, 1930, in Holmes County, Ohio, Richard was the son of the late Paul and Faye (Fraelich) Sidle. A 1947 graduate of Shreve High School, he proudly served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War. On October 1, 1950, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Mae Thomas, in Shreve, Ohio. They shared 66 wonderful years together before Doris' passing on November 26, 2016.
Richard was the owner and operator of Sidle Transit Service, a milk hauling business he founded. Through decades of hard work and dedication, he grew the company into a thriving enterprise, retiring in 2000 after a long and rewarding career.
A devoted member of Orrville Christian Church, Richard served as a deacon and financial secretary for many years, reflecting his deep faith and commitment to his community. He loved gardening, studying history, traveling with Doris, and attending countless high school sporting events. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
Richard is survived by his five children: Dianne (Dave) Williard, Denny (Jody) Sidle, Doug (Cindy) Sidle, Debbie (Kelly) Handwerk, and Duane (Laurie) Sidle; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and his sister, Maxine Fravel.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Doris; his parents; his brother, Ronald Sidle; and his sisters, Marilyn Wachtel and Mona Mae Harod.
Friends may call on Friday, November 29, 2024, at Orrville Christian Church, 925 North Elm Street, Orrville, from 11:00 am to 12:45 pm. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 pm, at the church, officiated by Pastor John Mulpas. Burial will take place at Crown Hill Cemetery in Orrville, with military rites will be observed.
