Richard "Dick" Siepmann, age 95, of Rochester, MN passed away on June 4, 2024 with his daughter by his side.
Dick was born in Algona, IA and later moved to Des Moines, IA. He joined the Army after high school, toward the end of WWII, and proudly served his country stationed in Korea from 1946-1948. His son, Jim, arranged for Dick to participate in an Honor Flight in 2016 to celebrate his service in WWII.
After the Army, Dick attended Iowa State and earned a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering, graduating in 1952. While working in Iowa he met his wife, Mary, at a church function and they were married on July 2, 1955 in Independence, MO. Shortly after they married, Dick got a job at IBM in Rochester, and they made Rochester their home where they raised their son and daughter. Dick worked at IBM as a Business Planner and retired from IBM in 1986.
Dick enjoyed visiting family and friends, golfing, traveling, outdoor grilling, fishing and spending time at the family cabin. He was a 25-year member of Golden K Kiwanis and also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dick was a long-time parishioner at St. Pius Catholic Church where he served as a money counter and usher for many years. In his later years, Dick's routine included a weekly Sunday group breakfast after mass with good friends and regular attendance at Kiwanis meetings.
Before his death, Dick's grandchildren, daughter-in-law, and son-in-law were all able to visit him one last time. In his final days, his daughter, Margie, was a regular fixture at Benedictine Madonna Towers, providing comfort to him as he transitioned from this life to his heavenly life, joining his wife and son.
Dick was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Mary Margaret Siepmann, his son, James Patrick Siepmann M.D., and his grandson, Jeffrey Michael Siepmann. He is survived by his daughter, Margaret "Margie" (Scott) Tompkins; grandson Joshua (Meghan) Tompkins; grandson David (Emma) Tompkins; daughter-in law Victoria "Vicky" Siepmann; granddaughter Justine (Pete) Haslanger; granddaughter Jennifer Siepmann; granddaughter Jessica (Jordan) Destree; granddaughter Joelle (Devin) Winter and grandson Jarett Siepmann. He is further survived by 12 beloved great grandchildren.
A mass of Christian burial for Dick will be held on Monday, June 17, 2024 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1315 12th Ave NW, Rochester, MN 55901 with visitation at 10 am, funeral service at 11 am and lunch provided following the service. He will be laid to rest beside his wife Mary at Calvary Cemetery in Rochester. Military honors will be bestowed upon Dick in a private ceremony at the cemetery with his family.
