OBITUARY NOTICE
Richard C. Smith
Richard C. Smith, 83, formerly of Mifflintown, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at Transitions Healthcare Allens Cove, Duncannon, PA.
Born on September 10, 1940 in Lewistown, Mifflin County, he is a son of the late F. Paul "Doggie" Smith and Kathleen E. "Kate" (Beward) Smith. On June 9, 1962, he married his high school sweetheart, Wanda L. Beale with whom he shared over 36 years of marriage before her passing on September 25, 1998. On December 18, 1999 Rich married Rita E. (Keister) Smith whom he shared over 11 years of marriage before her passing on May 4, 2011.
Surviving are a son, Douglas S. Smith and wife, Michelle, of Millerstown, sister, Kathleen A. McCoy (William) of Reedsville, brother, Franklin P. Smith, Jr. (Paula) of Mechanicsburg, brother, David L. Smith (Jan), sister, Christie L. Yorks (Ron) all of Mifflintown, sister-in-law, Delores B. Henry (Robert) of Honey Grove, three grandsons, Zachary S. Smith (Michaelli) of Thompsontown, Aaron P. Smith (Mackenzie) of Millerstown, Noah D. Smith of Baltimore, MD and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wives, Rich was preceded in death by sister, Lucinda Kay Smith on August 30, 1940.
Rich was a 1958 graduate of Juniata High School as well as a graduate of Williamsport Area Community College where he obtained a degree in Diesel Mechanics. For nearly 50 years Rich was employed as a diesel mechanic for Zimmerman Truck Repair, Mifflintown.
Rich was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Mifflintown. He enjoyed spending time with family at their cabin in Reeds Gap, making barbecue chicken and homemade grapenut ice cream, hunting, fishing, gardening, woodworking, painting, doing puzzles, playing games, spending time with his grandsons, volunteering with Juniata County Food Pantry and in his final weeks, sitting on the porch in the sunshine with his son, Doug.
Memorial Services will be held at 12:00 PM, Saturday, March 9,2024 at the Brown Funeral Homes, Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown with the Rev. Samuel Leister officiating. Interment will be private in the McCoysville Cemetery, McCoysville.
There will be no viewing; however, the family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 11:00 AM until the time of the service at 12:00 PM at the funeral home.
The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial donations in Mr. Smith's memory may be made to the Juniata County Food Pantry, 114 N. Main Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059 or to the Messiah Lutheran Church, 3 S. Third Street, Mifflintown, PA 17059.
