Richard Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Egizi Funeral Home on Oct. 4, 2024.
Richard J. Smith
On October 3, 2024, of Washington Twp. Age 67. Devoted father of Jennifer Smith (Stephen Marcucci), Jessica Saunders (Cameron), and Stephen Smith (Natasha). Loving grandfather of Avery, Miles, Emerson, Mason, and Nicholas. Cherished son of the late Joseph F. and Ann M. (nee Ondich) Smith. Dear brother of the late Joseph R. Smith.
"People try to take care of themselves, why? We're only here for the blink of an eye. Just live and enjoy life to the fullest". This was one of Rich's quotes and sums up the way he lived his life perfectly. His passion for life showed in his love for his children, his appreciation of music, his many friendships, both old and new, and his joy in watching sports – especially when his grandkids were playing. Whatever you knew him as – Dad, Poppy, Rich – he was bound to make an impression and will truly be missed.
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 8:15 – 10:15 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am at Church of the Holy Family, Washington Twp. Interment Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Berlin.
In honor of Richar's life, in lieu of flowers or other acts of sympathy, his family would encourage any donations to St. John of God Community Services.

I am deeply saddened to hear about Richards' untimely passing. I feel so lucky to have known him. He was a great friend and a wonderful man who loved his family deeply. He was always smiling. He was funny, polite, smart, kind and generous. I will forever remember how much he loved music and he had such a beautiful singing voice which I even got to hear a few times. Please accept my heartfelt condolences and I hope that you find some comfort in your precious memories of him and knowing that he will sorely missed.

To Jenn, Jess & Steve... My heart aches for the sorrow you are feeling now and know that you are all very much LOVED by your dad. Rich was (and still is) so PROUD of you all! Talked about you often with me at the mailbox, on shoveling snow together, and sharing some Bourbon on the driveway. I will miss him very much and I am saying Rosaries for him each day and special prayers for you all, too. 40 years we have been neighbors and friends. I am so grateful for knowing Rich and you three wonderful children.
