Richard D. Spurlin, 72, of Danielsville, GA was ushered into Jesus arms in heaven on January 7, 2025, surrounded by his family following a long illness.
He was a son of the late Ernest C. Wood, known as "Pa Squeak" and Ruth Wood, known as "Ma Ruth."
Richard was born and raised in Sparta, North Carolina, where he was a graduate of Sparta High School. In his early adult life, he moved to Georgia where he was a resident of Madison County. He was employed by multiple trucking companies where he retired from McLane Southeast, Athens GA.
He was licensed EMT with Madison County EMS, a volunteer fireman as well as a First Responder with both Hull and Danielsville Fire and Rescue. Also serving with Southern Baptist Convention Disaster Relief.
He was a long time member of Colbert First Baptist Church, member of Betherean Sunday School Class. As a Godly servant, he fulfilled many roles that included Deacon, Good News Club, Food Bank and bus driver.
He was a loving husband, father and Poppy, Richard was preceded in death by brother, Tommy Spurlin and sister Reba Hamm. He is survived by his wife, Glenda Spurlin of 27 years, 3 sons, Jamie Spurlin (Amy), Matt Spurlin, Jeffrey Nichols (Amanda), and one daughter, Brandy Burroughs (Trey); 7 grandchildren Colby Spurlin, Justin Spurlin, Cody Spurlin, Evan Spurlin, Karter Spurlin, Averi Burroughs, Leigh Nichols; 2 great grandchildren, Wyatt and Raelynn Spurlin; Sisters, Betty Tucker (John), Eva Wooten, Mary Joines (Dennis), Ella Mae Finney (Danny); Brothers, Kermit Wood (Louise), and Allen Wood along with many nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 13, 2025 at 1:00pm at Colbert First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Danielsville Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 12, 2025 from 4-6pm at Lord and Stephens Funeral Home, Danielsville, GA. Pallbearers will be Colby Spurlin, Justin Spurlin, Cody Spurlin, Evan Spurlin, Trey Burroughs, Jeffrey Nichols and Karter Spurlin.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the wonderful staff of Family Hospice, Nurse Casey Haley and care technician, Jaavee.
