Richard Phelan Stetson, 88, of Clarksboro, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025.

Born in Audubon, NJ, on March 30, 1937, Richard lived a life defined by family, service, creativity, and quiet strength. He married the love of his life, Peggy Johanna Stetson, in 1959. Together, they raised their children in Edgewater Park, NJ, where they lived for 53 years and were active in the local community and church.

Richard proudly served in the U.S. Navy Reserve from October 1954 to 1962. A talented graphic artist, he worked with a number of distinguished organizations throughout his career, including NASA, Meridian Engineering, NDI/LPI, and the Burlington County Times.

In addition to his professional artistry, Richard was also a gifted creator in his personal life. He enjoyed working with stained glass, pencil drawing, model making, and other crafts-often gifting beautiful, handmade pieces to family and friends. These one-of-a-kind creations reflected his eye for detail and his deep affection for those around him, leaving a lasting legacy of beauty and care.

That creative spirit lives on in his children, who inherited and continue to express his artistic talents. His daughter, Deeanne, shares her artistry through quilting, and his son, Richard, through woodworking. Like their father, they carry on the tradition of gifting beautiful handmade pieces-keeping his creative legacy alive across generations.

Beyond his creative gifts, Richard was deeply committed to serving others. He was a long-time member of Beverly Presbyterian Church, where he volunteered as an assistant scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 24. After relocating to Clarksboro in 2015, he became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Mullica Hill.

He often reflected on fond memories of his youth-following his older brother, Allen, into adventures like small boat sailing and car racing. In retirement, Richard found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren, attending their events, and celebrating their achievements.

Richard also held a special place in his heart for his extended family. He was honored to serve as godfather to his beloved niece, Lori Stetson-Bower-a role he treasured deeply.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Peggy, and his brother, Allen Stetson.

Richard is survived by his loving family:

Daughter Deeanne Sanasac and husband Ron of Howell, NJ

Granddaughter Amanda Sanasac and great-grandson Patrick of Howell, NJ

Grandson Ronald Sanasac III and wife Shaundrika, with great-grandsons Noah, Henry, and Levi of Columbus, NJ

Son Richard Stetson and wife Nancy of Clarksboro, NJ

Grandsons Richard Stetson and wife Katie of Woodbury Heights, NJ

Zac Stetson and wife Angie, with great-grandson Samuel of Chattanooga, TN

His legacy lives on in the lives he touched through his kindness, generosity, creativity, and unwavering devotion to family.

Funeral services will be held privately.
