Richard E. Stevens, born on April 30, 1937, in Bourbon, Missouri, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2025, in Orlando, Florida. Richard was a dedicated and honorable servant of his country, having served four years in the United States Air Force before being honorably discharged. Following his service, he embarked on a distinguished career as an air traffic controller, a role he fulfilled with commitment and expertise for 45 years until his retirement in 2002.
Throughout his life, Richard was known for his calm demeanor, friendly nature, and quick wit. He had a talent for humor, often sharing a playful roast with his daughter, son-in-law, and four sisters, reminding all who knew him of the joy that laughter can bring. His greatest treasures were his family, especially the nightly dinners he cherished with his grandchildren, Elijah and Olivia Kasid.
Richard took immense pride in his achievements, particularly his long career in air traffic control, and admired his daughter, April Kasid, for her impressive ability to balance her career and family responsibilities. He was deeply involved in his grandchildren's lives, consistently attending and supporting their activities and celebrating their milestones with enthusiasm.
An avid and gifted golfer, Richard devoted his time to the sport. He also was a skilled bowler who frequently traveled to compete in tournaments. He valued exercise and made walking a daily routine, contributing to his active lifestyle.
He is survived by his daughter, April Kasid and her husband, Brian; his grandchildren, Elijah and Olivia Kasid; his step-son, Jack Tucker; and his sisters, Gloria Rector, Emma Tucker, and Trudy Reed and her husband, Don.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Donna Stevens; his sister, Helen Reed; and his parents, John Stevens and Melrose (Manthie) Stevens.
His legacy of love, laughter, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
He will be laid to rest with his wife, Donna, at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
