Richard was born in Baltimore, MD on April 1, 1941 and was the son of the late Roscoe R. and Helena (Klaas) Stewart. He graduated from Eichelberger High School Class of 1959 and proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1963 and was honorably discharged. Alongside his wife, Richard founded Stewart's Mower Sales and Service in Jefferson in 1972 and sold this business to his son Craig in 2007 when he retired. He was also a member of the Jefferson Lions Club and St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Hanover and enjoyed attending tractor shows with his wife and gardening.
Richard is survived by his sons Richard E. Stewart, Jr. and wife Vicki of Abbottstown and Craig A. Stewart of Hanover; his grandchildren Julianna, Trenton, and Colton; and his siblings Margaret Lingg and husband John and Karl Stewart. He was preceded in death by his siblings Anna Hilbert and Fred Stewart.
A Funeral Service in celebration of Richard's life will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at 11:00AM at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 32 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA 17331 with Rev. Dr. Kathy Vitalis Hoffman officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest next to his wife at Jefferson Cemetery with military honors provided by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. Viewings will be held on Sunday, October 19, 2025 from 6:00PM – 8:00PM at Beck Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Inc., of Spring Grove, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, PA 17362 and on Monday from 10:00AM – 11:00AM in the parlor of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Richard's memory may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 32 W. Chestnut St., Hanover, PA 17331.
