Richard “Dick” Devee Stone, age 79, of Bayard, IA, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2025 at his residence in Bayard.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids with Jill Albright officiating. Casket bearers will be Dick’s nephews. Burial will be in the Union Township Cemetery near Coon Rapids.
Visitation will be held at the Dahn and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids from 5 – 7 P.M. on Wednesday. Additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:30 – 10:15 A.M. prior to the service.

Dick was born on June 21, 1946 in Jefferson, IA, and he was the son of Carroll and Vera (Albright) Stone. He grew up in Bayard where he graduated from high school. His father passed away in 1970 and Dick took over the family’s corn shelling business. Dick was married to Barbara Sheer and the couple later divorced. Dick was later remarried to Val Forkner on July 10, 2015. Dick was the garbage man in Bayard for over 35 years retiring in 2024. He also worked for the Guthrie County Landfill for many years. He served on the Bayard City Council for 30 years. Dick enjoyed going to Prairie Meadows and tending to his pet Boston Terriers Rufus and Brutus and his cat Hopper.
Dick is survived by his wife Val of Bayard; three sisters: Pat Reineke of Columbus, NE, Judy Goodwin of Coon Rapids, and Kay Brannan (Dick) of Ankeny; two brothers: Donnie Stone (Shirley) of Minburn, IA, and Jack Stone (Jeannie) of Bayard; and his father and mother-in-law David and Janet Forkner of Scranton. Dick is also survived by the following in-laws: Joyce Stone of Bayard, Reta Stone of Granger, Eugene Scheuermann of West Des Moines, Gary Hunter of St. Charles, IA, Jeanise Pedersen (Jeremiah) of Jefferson, and Regina Forkner of Scranton.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents Carroll and Vera Stone; two sisters: Marilyn Hunter and Janet Scheuermann; and two brothers: Jerry Stone and Roger Stone.
Dick’s family will be forever grateful to Yenli Fredrickson for the compassion and care she gave to him during his final days.
