With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Richard Strohschein, a devoted husband, loving father, cherished grandfather, and loyal friend. Richard, 81, spent his winters in Arcadia, Florida, and his summers in Cheboygan, Michigan, alongside his beloved wife of 61 years, Patricia Strohschein.
Born on July 8, 1943, Richard was a man of unwavering dedication, integrity, and kindness. He worked as a welder and fabricator for CSI in Grayling, Michigan, before retiring in 2010. But beyond his career, his true life's work was the love and care he poured into his family and community. He was a proud volunteer firefighter, a foster parent to over 40 children, and a hardworking craftsman who built his own custom home in northern Michigan-each a testament to his selfless nature and strong work ethic.
Richard found joy in life's simple pleasures-golfing, fishing, camping, traveling, and playing cards. He was a dedicated fan of the Detroit Lions, Tigers, and Red Wings, cheering them on through every season. But above all, his greatest happiness came from the time spent with his family. He was a guiding light to his children, always present, always involved, and always putting their needs before his own. With a warm smile and an open heart, he made those around him feel loved and valued, never missing a chance to bring laughter into their lives.
He is survived by his children: Jeff and Lori Strohschein from San Antonio, TX, Rob and Karen Strohschein of West Palm Beach, Florida, Ken and Vandee Strohschein of Holland, Michigan, and Sue Strohschein and Dan Martinez of Clarksville, Michigan. He also leaves behind his brother, Bruce Strohschein, and his sister, Carolyn Strohschein Coffee.
Richard's legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who knew him. His family finds comfort in the memories he leaves behind, knowing that his spirit will continue to guide them.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held at a later date, where family and friends can gather to honor the incredible man he was. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages acts of kindness in his memory, as Richard believed in lifting others up and spreading joy wherever he went.
Rest in peace, Richard. You were deeply loved and will be forever missed.

I was not blessed to have known Mr. Strohschein but I am honored to know his son Jeff (Lori) and his grandchildren Justin and Taylor. His substantial and honorable impact and legacy shine brightly through them everyday.

My prayers for Mr. Strohschein's family and friends during this time and hopes that the lifetime of memories provide warmth and comfort in the days to come. Katrina & John (San Antonio)
