Mr. Richard Carl Swearingen, 80, of Aiken, SC, husband of the late Frances Rice "Fran" Swearingen, entered into rest at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Sonya and Frank Bishop, on Tuesday, October 8, 2024.
Born in Edgefield County, SC, and a resident of Aiken County, SC, most of his life, he was the son of the late John and Willie Mae Swearingen. He proudly and with honor served in the South Carolina Army National Guard. A public servant, he retired from the Aiken County Sheriff's Office, where he was a Deputy.
Richard was a dedicated Clemson fan and an avid supporter of the University of South Carolina - Aiken Athletics Department He attended various sporting events and practices. He enjoyed being with the kids and acting as a "sideline coach" while cheering them on. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and working on jigsaw puzzles.
Additional family members include a daughter, the late Tonya Marie Swearingen, grandchildren Ariel Smith, Justin Bishop, and Courtney Bishop Roark and her husband, Kyle, and great-grandchildren Jace and Brooks Roark.
Friends will be greeted by the family on Saturday, October 19, 2024, beginning at 1 o'clock at Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 3464 Jefferson Davis Highway, Graniteville, SC. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2 o'clock in the chapel of Hatcher Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
