Richard Swift Obituary

Richard Swift
AIKEN - Reverend Richard Murray Swift, 77, passed away Thursday, August 15, 2024.
Richard was born in Rochester, NY, a son of the late Walter and Beatrice Smith Swift. He was a graduate of Ottawa University and received his Master's Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1969-1972.
After his time in the military, he accepted Christ and began his life of ministry. Richard and Laurie served in many churches, eventually leading them to the foundation of Cedar Creek Church.
Richard was not just a leader, but a shepherd to us all-a guiding light whose unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication laid the foundation of Cedar Creek Church and touched countless lives. He led with a servant's heart, always pointing us toward the love and grace of Jesus Christ. The legacy he leaves behind is one of deep faith, enduring hope, and boundless love.
He is survived by his daughter, Sophie Swift (Chad) Kelly, Aiken; his son, Matthew Swift, Lexington; grandchildren Chase Kelly, Ashlyn Kelly, Emerson Swift, Charlotte Swift; and a sister, Judy Short, Cambridge, NY.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, Laurie Hale Swift; and a brother, George Swift.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 PM Monday, August 19, 2024, at Cedar Creek Church, Banks Mill Rd., with Pastor Phillip Lee officiating.

I write this with a heavy heart. I stumbled on this news just by accident, Dick Swift lead me to know JESUS in is short stay in Colorado in the 1980s he Baptised me. Both being Veterans we hit it off, ùs and our Wives. My Wife Kris and Laurie sang in the choir together. We went to their son's baseball games. The last 40 years I don't think there has been a day I haven't thought of him.
We send our condolences to the Family. May they rest in peace together.

My deepest condolences to Richard´s family. I first got to know Richard at Millbrook Baptist Church here in Aiken, SC. During those years Richard was the best associate pastor and I was extreme happy for him when he was called to lead Cedar Creek Baptist Church as their senior pastor. Richard had the heart of a true shepherd and greatly cared for all the lost people of this world. We reconnected toward the end of Richard´s time on this orb. Richard never complained about his misfortune with his declining health to me and our visits were always uplifting, true to his nature. I will miss my friend, Richard, very much but know his final home is that place not made by hands and eternal in the heavens. I look forward to seeing Richard again.
