Richard Gene Thomas

1940 - 2026

Richard G. Thomas, 85, of Franklin passed away February 28, 2026. He was born on August 17, 1940 in Indianapolis, the son of Thomas R. and Margaret (Smith) Thomas. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, his son, Scott and his wife, stepson, Andrew Rule and his wife, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.Richard was a 1958 graduate of Broad Ripple High School. He served in the United State Navy from 1959-1961. Richard was employed at Hoover, Aero Drapery, RGT Drapery and Blinds, and most recently was a caterer with Jonathan Byrd Restaurant. He was a past member of the Optimist Club of Northside Indianapolis, holding both club and state offices for several years, as well as involvement with the American Legion Post 0252. In his retirement, he enjoyed N-scale model railroading.

A service of remembrance will take place at Indiana Funeral Care, 2433 E. Main Street, Greenwood, IN 46143 on Monday, March 16, 2026. Visitation will be held from 10 am until 12 pm. Remembrance service will begin at noon and burial to immediately follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, 9700 Allisonville Road, Indianapolis, IN 46250 at 1:30 pm.
