Richard William Trombetta, 93, passed away with peace and grace on October 16, 2025. He was the devoted husband of 60 years to the late Joan Carrie Saracco Trombetta and survived by his cherished children, Tracey Eakin (Larry), William Trombetta (Janet), and Julie Simko (Steve). He was the beloved "Grumpy" Grampy to Anne Trombetta, Katherine Trombetta (Berardino Intrieri), John Eakin, Joe Trombetta, Sarah Simko, Noah Eakin, Nick Simko and Jake Simko.
Richard (Dick), born to William Richard Trombetta and Anna Barbara Maciejauskas, was raised among many generations of a close-knit family in McKees Rocks. After graduating from Stowe High School and working as a laborer, he proudly served in the Korean War as Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy on the U.S.S. Randolph. When he returned to Pittsburgh, he began what became a long and varied career in sales while raising his children with Joan in Mt. Lebanon. He started his own small business in television repair and moved on to sales of calculators, small electronics, typewriters and eventually computers. He branched out to join Bergen Machine & Tool Company for decades of sales in machinist parts and had many business ventures with his own self-made company, Omega Industries. While he enjoyed his travels in sales, his trips always returned him home to Joan and their Sunday "Spag" Night dinner table that was never without laughter or an empty chair. He was always learning and never one to sit idle. He was a self-taught auto mechanic, mathematician, tinkerer and repairman.
Dick wore many hats in his lifetime, but none more than being a friend to dogs, cats, and horses. His devotion to four-legged friends was a commitment that spanned decades of service to many organizations, to include Angel Ridge Animal Rescue, Washington Area Humane Society and Animal Friends. One of his favorite places to spend time was Rolling Hills Ranch with Suki, a 10-year-old quarter horse he rescued from abuse who was loved by the Trombetta Family for 18 more years. His home with Joan was always filled with grateful barks and howls from dogs, many who were nursed back to health to live out long lives in their warm care. Richard was never without a faithful companion at his side and was proud to pass down his respect of animals and their rights to his children and grandchildren. His animals were often the inspiration behind his many artistic sketch drawings and his published poetry.
He is also survived by his sister, Patricia Willis (Eugene) and pre-deceased by his brother, Ronald Stegemann.
