Richard Joseph Turner

Richard Joseph Turner, age 88, of Smyrna, DE, passed away on Monday, February 9, 2026, in Milford, DE. Born on May 5, 1937, in Boston, MA, Richard was the son of the late George and Agnes (Hoye) Turner. He lived a life defined by service, dedication, leadership, and love of family.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, carrying that spirit of patriotism throughout his life. He was an active member of several organizations, including the Moose Lodge in Smyrna, DE; Elks Lodge 1903 in Dover, DE; the American Legion in Seaford, DE; and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 7447 in Rehoboth Beach, DE. Richard's commitment to his fellow veterans and community reflected his deep respect for service and camaraderie.

Professionally, Richard had a distinguished 25-year career with Raytheon, where he earned numerous awards in recognition of his excellence and leadership. As a respected leader and mentor, Richard supervised a team of 25 engineers and found great fulfillment in teaching computer systems and Macintosh technology at Raytheon. His passion for innovation, learning, and guiding others left a lasting impression on those who worked alongside him.

Outside of his professional life, Richard enjoyed fishing and hunting, pursuits that brought him peace and happiness. He also had a lifelong love of computers and technology, always eager to learn and share his knowledge with others.

Above all, Richard was devoted to his family. He is survived by the love of his life, his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances "Fran" Turner, along with several nieces and nephews. Their six decades together were a testament to enduring love, partnership, and shared devotion.

Richard will be remembered for his leadership, intelligence, service to his country, and unwavering love for his family. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and quiet strength that will not be forgotten.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2026, at Parsell Funeral Homes – Atkins Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Hwy, Lewes, DE 19958, with a viewing beginning at 10:00 am. A chapel committal and military honors will follow at 1:00 PM at Delaware Veterans Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, DE 19966.
