Former Harvel resident, Richard Thomas "Dick" Uhrig, 78, of Divernon, passed away peacefully at 6:33 p.m. Friday, September 22, 2023, at his home surrounded by family.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday September 28th, at St. Raymond Catholic Church, Raymond, with burial at St. Raymond Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27th at St. Raymond Catholic Church.
Richard was born the son of John and Anna (Fireman) Uhrig, on November 10, 1944, at St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield. He was a lifelong Grain and Livestock farmer in the Harvel area. He was a member of the K of C Council 4696 and St. Raymond Church. Dick currently served as a commissioner of the Harvel #1/Lone Oak Drainage District, and served as former trustee for 13 years on the Raymond Community Fire District Board and as a former commissioner on the Harvel #2 Drainage District for a number of years. He enjoyed camping and traveling, spending time with his family and his dog Murphy, as well as golfing and target shooting.
He married Carol Ann Bergschneider on August 8, 1964, at St. Raymond Church, and she preceded him on March 30, 2008.
Richard is survived by two daughters, Karen (husband Chuck) Pickerill of Fernandina Beach, FL, and Sharon (husband Gary) Busch of Divernon; one son, Dennis Uhrig of Springfield; grandchildren, Steven (Rebecca) Kunkler, Megan (Deshae) Sorrells and Stefanie (Jeremiah Shorter) Pickerill, Craig (Sarah) Busch, Cory Busch; 4 great grandchildren, Charlotte and Garrett Sorrells and Elsie and Allie Busch. A sister Marilyn Sue Sale of Raymond and longtime companion Carol Lancaster of Auburn also survive him.
Besides his wife Carol, he is preceded in death by a sister Margaret Ann "Peggy" Jordan, brothers, Robert Eugene Uhrig and John William Uhrig as well as a Grandson Cole Busch.
Memorials in Richard's honor may be given to Montgomery County Animal Shelter, Paws or the Raymond-Harvel Fire Department.
