In Loving Memory Richard Lopez Urdiales ("Smiley") November 16, 1947 – June 5, 2025
Born in San Antonio, Texas, and raised in East Los Angeles, California. Richard Lopez Urdiales passed away at the age of 77. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Lidia Urdiales; brothers Gilbert, Roger, Eddie, and Mario; and his grandson, Richard L. Urdiales. He is survived by his children: Richard Jr., Irene Rutledge, Melinda, and Steven Urdiales; grandchildren: Tabitha Aredissian, Amber, Arthur, Andrew Angerer, and Aerika Kendrick; great-grandchildren: Samantha, Anthony, Amelia, and Arthur Jr. and extended grandchildren: Marlyna and Jazzlynn Gutierrez, and Xander Ramirez. He was "Papa Richard" to many in the extended family. Also surviving him are his brother, Arthur Urdiales; sisters: Sylvia Gonzales, Angel Albadri, Henrietta Martinez, Grace (Mike) Tapia, Elsie Urdiales, Anita Medina, Espie (David) Medine, Connie (David) Miramontes, and Diana Orozco; numerous nieces, nephews, and many friends, including Andy Herrera, Mario Gonzalez, and Gabriel Martinez. Richard worked for over 60 years as an auto collision repair and paint technician. He enjoyed road trips, DVD movies, buffets, casinos, and listening to "Oldies But Goodies," often reminiscing about the memories those songs held. In recent years, he especially valued time spent with his son Richard Jr., brother Art, and his fiancée of 28 years, Bertha Gutierrez. He will be remembered as a quiet, kind, generous, headstrong, funny, and proud man-always willing to help others and deeply devoted to his family.
