Carolyn C. Smith, a cherished pillar of her community and beloved family matriarch, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on September 25, 2025, in San Bernardino, California, at the age of 78. Born on July 3, 1947, in Montgomery, Alabama, Carolyn's life was a testament to strength, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends.
Carolyn was the heart of her home, a place filled with the rich aromas of her cooking and the warmth of her decorating, especially during the holidays. Her gardens were a source of joy and beauty, reflecting the care and attention she bestowed upon everything and everyone she cherished. She took immense pleasure in nurturing not only her plants but also the lives of her beloved grandchildren, who will carry the legacy of her love and teachings.
A proud graduate of Manual Arts High School, Carolyn's hard work and commitment to excellence were evident throughout her life. She brought a sense of pride and dedication to her role within the San Bernardino County School District, where she served as a custodian. Her commitment to the janitorial industry was not just about maintaining cleanliness; it was about creating a welcoming and safe environment for the students and staff. In her latest position at Arrowhead Elementary you would often hear her loving students call for their beloved "Miss Carolyn".
Carolyn was a beacon of resilience and grace, facing the loss of her dear husband, Ernest Smith, and her beloved sons, Stephen Smith and Theoplis Rocky Smith, with a steadfast heart. Her father, Willie Lee Smith, step-father, Hosea Fisher and her mother, Earlyne Smith, preceded her in death, as did her brothers Clifford, John, and James Smith. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Leisa Moseley-Sayless; her son, Curtis Smith,; her brother, Mathew Smith; and her eleven adoring grandchildren, her 6 great grandchildren who will continue to be inspired by her life.
Carolyn's legacy is one of love and service. She was a woman who lived her values every day, touching the lives of those around her with her kindness and generosity. Her laughter, her wisdom, and her unwavering spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
