Our dad Richard Vasquez, was born on Dec 27, 1946, in a house in Goshen, Ca to Benny Vasquez and Virginia Vasquez. He passed away peacefully at home on June 17, 2024. Our Dad grew up in Goshen where he attended elementary school and graduated from Redwood High School on June 11, 1965. While attending Redwood he played baseball, football and basketball. He was an All American and his name still hangs in the Redwood gym. A shoulder injury ended his recruitment to play pro baseball and he was drafted into the Army on Feb 10, 1966, during the Vietnam war. Due to our dad’s injury, he was able to avoid combat instead becoming a cook stationed in Germany. Our Dad was honorably discharged on January 24, 1968, where he returned home to Goshen. On February 7, 1970, he married our mother, Sylvia Osorio. They were married for 17 years raising 2 kids until they’re divorced. Our Dad loved watching sporting events in person or on tv. He was a supporter of local high schools and COS sporting events and enjoyed attending games. His favorite times were watching his son Rich Jr play for Mt Whitney and his grandson Nathan play for El Diamanté. Our Dad’s favorite teams were the LA Dodgers, Boston Celtics and LA Rams however he was an honorary Raiders fan and enjoyed attending Raider games with his son Rich Jr, brother Louie and nephews, Louie Jr and Ernest. He will always be remembered for setting up bus trips to Dodger games for family and friends. We will miss those trips. Our Dad was preceded in death by his father Benny Vasquez, his mother Virginia Vasquez, his stepfather Frank Vasquez, his sisters Margaret Cortez and Esther Saldivar. He is survived by his son Richard Vasquez Jr, his daughter Vanessa Gonzales, his 3 grandchildren that he adored and did everything he could for Nathan Castro, Ariana Gonzales and Manuel Gonzales Jr and his great grandson Zayden Williams who always brought a smile to his face. He is also survived by his brothers Benny Vasquez Jr, John Vasquez, Clark Vasquez, Manuel Vasquez, Frank Vasquez Jr and Louie Vasquez in addition to his sisters Antonia Lopez, Helen Vasquez, Frances Razo, Shirley Flores and Mary Vasquez. Our Dad was very fortunate to have had loving extended families, his Lopez stepbrothers and sisters, his Osorio brother and sisters in law and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. He was well respected by all that knew him, and he will be greatly missed. We love you Dad and Grandpa.
