Richard Gene Wake was born in Vanzant, Missouri, on April 27,1949, to Arlin Wake and June (Havens) Wake. Richard passed away the evening of Monday, September 22, 2025, at the age of 76, at his home in Willow Springs, Missouri, surrounded by family members.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife of fifty-three years, Patricia (Foster) Wake; son, Chad Wake and wife, Jeannett (Dumas) Wake; daughter, Toni (Wake) Autrey and husband, Daniel Autrey. He leaves behind two cherished grandchildren, Seth Wake and Isabella "Izzy" Autrey.

He is preceded in death by his father, Arlin Wake, mother, June (Havens) Wake, and brother, Gary Wake.

Richard had a strong work ethic and began working in his childhood, along with his father and three brothers, as a logger and sawyer. It brought him great pride to share this trade with his own son. Above all, he was humble and kind. He earned the name "Smiley" in the New River Grass Bluegrass Band, as he loved his dobro and sharing the joy music brought to his life. Richard had a knack for building and created his own hot rod he endearingly labeled the "Loggin' Truk," and years later collaborated with his son and grandson to complete his grandson's own treasured hot rod.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Foster's Outback in Willow Springs, Missouri. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Yarber Mortuary, Willow Springs, Missouri. Condolences may be expressed at www.yarbermortuary.com.
