McAllen - Richard (Rick) Eugene Walker, 63, was born November 19, 1959 at Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas and entered eternal rest on Friday, August 11, 2023. Mr. Walker is preceded in death by his parents, Richard and (Wanda) June (Barrager) Walker; his grandparents; aunts and uncles; five cousins.
He was the 3rd grandchild of the late Francis Porter and Roberta Lee (Mounce) Walker and the 15th grandchild of 21 for George Elmer and Minnie Annetta (Stoker) Barrager. The family moved multiple times while he was growing up. Rick started kindergarten at Lincoln Elementary in Columbus, Nebraska for a total of 7 schools by graduation from Pauls Valley High School in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. He was baptized in the First Christian Church at age 10 and enjoyed church camp on Lake Texoma during high school summers. Rick attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, OK and later the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK.
Being an exceptionally intelligent man he often wrote letters to his mother that rivals any scholar. He loved jazz music, country western dancing and telling stories. He worked in oil fields in western Oklahoma were he was badly burned in a rig explosion. Luckily he had very few scars from the fire. Rick was also a radio personality in Norman, OK which was perfect for his deep rich voice and ability to adlib. He worked as a tool pusher on an offshore rig in India and later in oil fields of south Texas where he evidentially made his home in McAllen, TX in the 1980s. He started doing construction in the area, met and married Sandra Herrera and had two beautiful daughters, Samantha and Sarah. He loved his girls and was very proud of them but had a hard time showing it. Rick had enough moving around so he stayed in McAllen the rest of his life.
He is survived by his wife Sandra of McAllen, daughter Samantha of Pittsburg, PA, daughter Sarah and grandson Elliott of McAllen, TX, sister Rebecca (Becky) Berger and husband David of Schulenburg, TX, nephews and nieces Adam Walker Jacobson and fiancé Roxanne Jones of Phoenix, AZ, Sacha Alexis Jacobson of Seattle, WA and Julie Kyann (Jacobson) Mallett and great nephew Stryker Paul Mallett of Anna, TX. There are many cousins and friends that remember him as the hyper prankster and witty redhead of the family.

My condolences to the Walker family. Rick lived in the complex where I work. He was a fiesty but gentle man. I know he is not feeling any pain anymore and walking on streets of gold. I was happy to have been of your friends. May you rest in peace. Della
