Richard C. Wetzel, 76, of Ashland passed away peacefully on Friday, June 20th at Lehigh Valley Hospital Schuylkill, Pottsville after a courageous, hard fought battle with cancer.

Born in Ashland, he was the son of the late Charles and Evelyn (Roseman) Wetzel. Rich was last employed for Gould's Pump, Ashland until his retirement.

Rich was an avid fan of North Schuylkill athletics and volunteered his time with the football and basketball programs. His true passion was watching his children and grandchildren play sports, at various levels. He also really enjoyed watching his son coach the Lady Spartans. If he wasn't watching sports, you could find him working with his sports cards or at one of the local auctions.

Rich is survived by his wife of 57 years, Holly (Humes) Wetzel of Ashland; his son, Richard Wetzel and his wife Sharyn, Frackville; his three daughters: Susan Burns and her husband Patrick, Girardville; Elizabeth Grow and her husband Michael, Ringtown; Amy Doolan and her husband Keith of Salem, VA; his grandchildren: Cameron Gantz, Tyler Gantz, Andrew Gantz, Mya Wetzel, Maddy Wetzel, Noah Grow, Parker Doolan and Maudie Doolan.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 28th at 11 a.m. from the Thomas M. Sullivan Funeral Home, 403 W. Main Street, Girardville. Friends and relatives are invited to his viewing at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and again on Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be held in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lady Spartan Booster Club, C/O Tonia Selgrade 30 Country Club Rd. Ashland, PA 17921.
