Richard Edwin “Eddie” Wetzler, 76, of Young, Arizona, passed away on June 9, 2025. Eddie was born on March 16, 1949, in Globe, Arizona, to Katherine Schminke and Richard F. Wetzler.
A lifelong resident of Gila County, Eddie grew up with a deep love for the land, the mountains, and the people of Arizona. He graduated from Globe High School and later attended Eastern Arizona College before beginning a career that spanned over 40 years as a heavy equipment operator at the Sierrita Mine.
Eddie was a proud member of the Pleasant Valley Gun Club and an avid outdoorsman. He held local records and was known for his sharp eye, steady hand, and deep respect for nature. His stories of hunting, fishing, and life in the Arizona high country were legendary among friends and family.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents, Katherine and Richard, and his beloved son, Justin Wetzler. He is survived by his devoted wife, Gay Ann Wetzler; his daughter, Heather Boop, and son-in-law, Clayton; his cherished grandchildren, Jackson and Aly Boop; and his sister, Rena Mann.
Eddie’s life was one of quiet strength, loyalty, and humor. He will be remembered for his honesty, his love of the outdoors, and the pride he took in his family and his home in Pleasant Valley.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Pleasant Valley Gun Club or a local wildlife conservation group in Eddie’s memory.
