Richard James Winchell, 59 passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 27, 2023 after a lengthy illness. His beloved wife, Gloria was by his side. Richard was born March 1, 1964, the sixth of ten children, to parents Ellen and Dick Winchell. A native of Shortsville, New York, he moved to Lafayette, Louisiana with his family during his high school years. After high school he worked in concrete road construction. He was employed by BST Timber and Trucking, LLC as a Concrete Slipform Curb Machine Operator. He enjoyed spending time with his wife Gloria, friends, and family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved animals especially dogs. His family joked that he could speak and understand "dog." Richard had a sense of humor and one could not help but laugh at his story telling.
Richard is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gloria, step daughter, Lycreshia Gibson, step grandson Daniel Bellard, sisters Kathy Keating (Robert), Amy Luciano (Joe), Mary Ellen Cash (Steve), Emily McKay, Sarah Winchell, Martha Aguirre (Ruben), brothers Jude Andrew (Stacy), Max (Yvonne), and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by an infant son, Richard, his parents Ellen and Dick Winchell, and sister Ann Winchell Stiffel. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00am at Saint Benedict the Moore Catholic Church in Duhon Louisiana. Burial immediately following Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Cemetery in Grand Coteau Louisiana.
