Richard Yaw Obituary

Richard O. Yaw

ALLEGANY - Richard O. Yaw went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday (April 8, 2025).

Richard was born July 10, 1938, in Salamanca, and was the son of Lennis and Helen Yaw. On Sept. 29, 1962, in Little Valley, he married Bonita Marie Marsh, who survives.

Richard graduated from Salamanca High School in 1956 and joined the U.S. Navy and was an electrician's mate 2nd class.

He worked at the former Hunt's Furniture, American Olean Tile and retired from Cutco in 2001.

He loved to travel, build and fly remote-control planes and was a member of the SHARKS model airplane club. Richard was fantastic at fixing just about anything and used those skills to build a hot rod. He also enjoyed meeting new people and talking with anyone that wanted to have a conversation. He was proud to have helped start the girls' softball team at Allegany Central School.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Dana (Lori) Yaw of Palmyra, Pa.; his daughter, Vicki (Chris) Grover of Hinsdale; five grandchildren, Holly Yaw, Shannon (Jordan) Mann, Tanner Yaw, Tyler Giardini and Shea (Toby) Livingston; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Sandra Watt and Nadine (Norman) Rhinehart; and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by a brother, Wayne Yaw.

There will be no services per his wishes.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to Wings of Hope, 18370 Wings of Hope Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63005; St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 (stjude.org/memorial); or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Arrangements are with the Casey, Halwig & Hartle Funeral Home, Olean.

I met Rich while a member of the SHARKS club and thoroughly enjoyed flying with him. My wife Sandi and I always got together with Bonnie and Rich when we visited Olean or they came down here to SE Pa. To visit their son. We always had a good time. He will be missed by the model flying community.
Keep `em flying, buddy!

So very sorry to see that Dick has passed away! I worked with him for over 11 years at the Agway/CF Industries plant in Olean. Dick was a talented electrician and a great fellow employee. He was always eager to jump in and help with anything and got along well with everyone. He will be missed by those who knew and associated with him. Deepest sympathy to his family and friends!

We will always remember how sweet Richard was to Bailey when she started coming to church. He always called her Skeezers with a big smile. We loved talking with Richard, because we always went away with happy hearts. John, Bailey and I will miss him. Our sympathy to Bonnie, Vickie and Nadine and the entire family. We pray for God´s perfect peace to you all that only God can give.

So very sorry for your loss. Richard and I hit it off right away at our church. We had a lot of very interesting conversations while at church I set right behind him and we would bring up a lot of stuff we had in common about each other. Sure gonna miss him. Fly high my good friend.
