Richard "Dick" Yeiter

Richard (Dick) Yeiter, aged 84, of Wayland, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on December 11, 2025. Dick was born on April 20, 1941 and grew up on the family farm in Belding, MI. After graduation he felt a calling to help others and joined the Kent County Sheriff Department. He spent his entire career working in almost every division. Dick was most proud of being an original member of the Emergency Unit Crew which provided life saving measures to the public. Dick loved working the south end of the county. He would say driving "E-68" was the greatest job anyone could have. Riding his Harley even after retiring in 1994, gave him joy by continuing his membership with the "Dilley Wackers" motorcycle group. After his riding days ended, he would follow along in his pickup truck. You could find Dick most days parked on the side of the road watching farmers work their fields. He also enjoyed meeting with old work buddies especially John Nester, to talk about the good ole days.

He is survived by his son Robert (Annette) Yeiter and daughter Shawn (Jim) Austin. Dick has six grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ila Yeiter and his brother, Robert (Lee) Yeiter.

A celebration of life will take place at the church he attended, South Boston Bible Church 6958 Kyser Rd., Lowell, MI., 49331 on Friday, December 19, 2025 at 11:00 am with visitation one hour prior and a luncheon to follow.
