Richard Allen Young, affectionately known as "Spike," passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Lemont, Illinois, on December 23, 2024, at the age of 89. Born on November 25, 1935, in Buffalo, New York, Richard's early life laid the foundation for a rich and fulfilling journey marked by both personal and professional achievements.

Richard graduated from Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, NY, where he began to cultivate a love for competing and engaging with others. His passion for horses led him to a long and rewarding career as a horse owner and racer, where he pursued the thrills of the track. Following his endeavors in the equine world, he transitioned into the retail sector, owning a tool store for over 20 years, where he became a well-respected presence in the community.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Richard cherished his free time. He enjoyed fishing and had a particular fondness for playing craps and poker, often sharing stories of his adventures with family and friends.

He leaves a loving legacy through his family: his son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Kimberly Young; granddaughter, Madison Young; brother, Jack Young (Elain); sister-in-law, Peggy Young; and a host of nieces and nephews, including Donny Young (Tina), Patrick Young, Katie Young Gracie (Curt Gracie), and Sean (Shotzy) Young .

Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Susan Young; his parents, Steven Allen Young and Catherine Paxon (Kelly); and his brother, Bob Young.

A visitation in memory of Richard will take place on Monday, December 30, 2024, from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a time for sharing at 7:30PM at Kurtz Memorial Chapel Ltd, located at 102 Francis Rd, New Lenox, Illinois, 60451.

He will be remembered not only for his accomplishments but also for his caring spirit and the warmth he brought into the lives of those fortunate enough to know him. Richard Allen Young leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the joy of living fully.
