Richard Kent Zeger, 78, of Hagerstown, MD, passed away, Thursday, January 2, 2025, at the Martinsburg Veteran Affairs Hospital.
Born Monday, June 17, 1946, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Roy Milton Zeger and the late Helen Louise (Barron) Zeger.
Rich attended North Hagerstown High School and was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served as a Combat Engineer retiring after 22 years of service. He later was employed with the State of Maryland as a Bridge Inspector, retiring after 20 years. Rich was a member of the American Legion Morris Frock Post 42.
He is survived by his wife Shirley Ann Zeger; sons, Richard K. (Holly) Zeger, Jr. and Chadwick A. (Kylee) Zeger; daughter, Melissa A. Zeger; brother James Zeger; sisters, Judy Harper and Susan Weir; grandchildren, Iris, Sabrina, Devan, Marice, and Hannah; and great-grandchildren, Addilyn, Kinsley, and Blaire.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Ronnie, Jay, John, Phil, and Terry Zeger; sisters, Shirley Zeger, Shannon Cunningham, Carolyn Brown, and Pam Cushwa.
Services will be held Thursday, January 9, 2025, at 1:00 pm, at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. North, Hagerstown, MD, with Gary Dawson officiating.
Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm.
Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, MD.
