Dr. Rick Alan Robertson of Plain eld, Indiana, a psychiatrist whose practice was in the Indianapolis metropolitan area, died on Sunday, March 9th, after a long illness. Michelle Mazza Robertson, his wife of thirty-two years, survives him along with his children, Carl Mazza Robertson and Sylvia Rae Robertson, who live in the metropolitan area. Dr. Robertson was the only child of Leland and Shirley Robertson of Columbus, Indiana, who predeceased him. He was an honors college graduate of Indiana University in Bloomington, and he earned his medical degree from the Indiana University Medical Center (IUMC) in Indianapolis. He also completed his psychiatric residency, as well as a fellowship in psychiatry, at IUMC. Most recently, Dr. Robertson served on the staff of Hendricks Therapy in Danville, Indiana, where he earned the deep regard of his patients. Writing to his patients after taking medical leave, Dr. Robertson wrote, “I love the practice of psychiatry and being with my patients and so many others I’ve met along the way. I’m sure that most providers will tell you this but seeing people do well has always given me great satisfaction in a way I can’t explain.” In addition to psychiatry, Dr. Robertson was a man of many interests, including tennis, trap and skeet, scuba diving, hunting, skiing, riding his motorcycle and bicycle, and playing the drums. Dr. Robertson was also an oenophile who enjoyed collecting and writing about ne wines. Even in his college days he taught courses on oenology, and during medical school, he wrote a weekly column for the medical school’s newspaper on wine appreciation. His expertise on wine was well known, being a respected member of the Liquid Assets Society and the Indianapolis chapter of the Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin. As a connoisseur of ne dining, one of Dr. Robertson’s joys was welcoming guests to his home, where he would take delight in selecting the perfect wine pairing for each course offered for dinner. At such gatherings, his infectious laugh would readily put people at ease, welcoming them to share in his sense of humor. During his long illness, Dr. Robertson would often remark that he was blessed to have such loving family and friends, who encouraged him in his pursuit, even to the end, to enjoy life, often noting with tenderness the kindness of his wife. Hampton Gentry Funeral Home at 106 Shaw Street in Plain eld, Indiana, is coordinating the funeral arrangements. Visitation will be on Saturday, March 15th, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service commencing at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow immediately after the service.
