Rick M. Thibadeau, 71, of Asbury, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday morning, September 11, 2025, surrounded by family. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, son, and friend. Known for his quick wit and endless supply of "dad jokes," he brought laughter and joy to everyone who knew him.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. with a prayer service being held at 12:45, Sunday Sept. 14 at Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Funeral Home and crematory, 2659 John F. Kennedy Road, Dubuque. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 15 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church. Burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation is assisting the family.

Rick was born on January 12, 1954, the son of Bertrand and Doreen (Chapman) Thibadeau. He graduated from Wahlert High School, class of 1972, and was a lifelong parish member of St. Columbkille. Rick married Susan Kactro on August 8, 1975, sharing 50 loving years together.

Rick dedicated more than four decades as a steelworker at Flexsteel in Dubuque, where he was known for his loyalty and strong work ethic. Outside of work, he cherished time with his grandchildren and enjoyed golfing and playing cards with friends.

He lived his Catholic faith in many ways, most notably by putting others before himself. His acts of kindness for his aging in-laws and parents stand out as a shining example of his selflessness.

He is survived by his wife, Sue (Kactro) Thibadeau; his daughter, Jill (Chris) Schulte; his son, Jeff (Kaitlin) Thibadeau; and his grandchildren, Sophia, Liam, Leo, Holly, Wes, and Miles. He is also survived by his brother, Gary (Cathy) Thibadeau; his sisters, Mary Lou (Michael) Johnson and Linda (Thomas) Bierie; and his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Anne and Rick Juergens, Mary Trannel, Mike and Heidi Kactro, and Bob Larsen.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bertrand Thibadeau; his mother, Doreen (Chapman) Thibadeau; his nephew, Chad Johnson; his sister-in-law, Barb (Kactro) Larsen; and his brother-in-law, Joe Trannel.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to Dr. Engelman and his staff, along with Hospice of Dubuque. Their compassion and guidance were an extraordinary comfort during Rick's journey.
