Rick Trygstad Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home & Crematory - Nevada on Mar. 12, 2026.
Richard "Rick" Trygstad, 70, of Nevada, passed away peacefully at home on March 11, 2026.

Rick was born on January 11, 1956, in Webster, South Dakota, to George E. and Ruby L. (Haugen) Trygstad. He graduated from high school in Florence, South Dakota, and went on to Lake Area Vocational Institute, graduating in 1977. Rick made his home in Nevada and was proud of a strong work ethic-working for Dueco, Inc. from 1980 to 1998 before joining Alliant Energy as a fleet mechanic. He retired in 2022.

More than anything, Rick will be remembered for the steady way he cared for the people around him-always willing to lend a hand, share a story, and show up when it mattered. He was a devoted husband, dad, grandad, brother, and friend, and his presence will be deeply missed.

Rick loved anything with an engine-motorsports, racing, truck pulling, and the time spent building and fine-tuning engines. He also took special pride in his grandkids and rarely missed a chance to cheer them on from the stands at their sporting events.

Rick is survived by his wife, Lori, of Nevada; his children, Kari Lieffort of Watertown, SD, Chad (Jilian) Fry of Nevada, Amber (Dan) Tuhn of Baxter, and Caden (Cassidy) Trygstad of Nevada; his grandchildren, Keaton and Holden Fry, Elie Tuhn (Spencer Moon), Emersen and Maddux Tuhn, and Colby Fry; his siblings, Bev (Jim) Morrison of Casa Grande, AZ, Beth (Jim) Thoreson of Willow Lake, SD, Barb (Tony) Fox of Chandler, AZ, GeeGee (Dave) Anderson of Bismarck, ND, and Rose (Loren) Fleming of Florence, SD; and his aunts, Gloria York, Joan Haugen, and Bev Haugen. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Greg (Merry) Driskell and Doug Driskell; his sister-in-law, Lisa (Paul) Reitelbach; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Art and Helen Haugen and Nels and Marie Trygstad; his father- and mother-in-law, Richard and Donna Driskell; his brother-in-law, Pat Dyrland; his nephew, Tyler Driskell; and his sister-in-law, Sandra Driskell.

Rick has been cremated, and a service will be planned at a later time.

Rasmusson-Ryan Funeral Home in Nevada has been entrusted with caring for Rick and his family. Condolences may be shared online at www.rasmussonfh.com.
