Mr. Rickey Black, 69, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024 at the North Mississippi Medical Hospital in Tupelo, MS. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Black was born on December 11, 1954 in Calhoun County, MS, to Mrs. Erma Vanlandingham Babb, and the late Mateland Black. His business, B + R Cabinets, was located here in Oxford for over 20 years. He was a hardworking man, doing anything and everything he could for his business, and his family.
His family was his number one priority, especially his beloved wife, Mrs. Barbara Kathryn Black. He was a devoted and loving husband to her for the past 52 years, and they made the most of every day they had together. Along with his wife, he was a very family oriented and selfless man. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He always put his family first, and loved nothing more than spending his time with them.
In his free time, he would take every opportunity he had to be outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his entire life. Mr. Black was also known to always have on his trademark Ole Miss hat. This hat was also the reason for his nickname, "Ole Miss," as you would never see him without it. Mr. Black lived a full and meaningful life, and he will be truly missed by all who knew him.
Mr. Rickey was survived by his loving wife, Barbara Kathryn Black of Oxford; his mother, Erma Vanlandingham Babb of Paris, MS; his two sons, Kevin Black (Daphne) and Jody Black (Tim) both of Oxford; his two brothers, David Black (Sherry) of Bruce, MS and Keith Black (Regina) of Oxford; his three grandsons, Dustin Black, Hayden Black, and Garett Black (Karlie), all of Oxford, MS; his two great-grandsons, Lowry Black and Anderson Black, both of Oxford; his great-granddaughter, Brooke Lynn Black of Oxford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Mateland Black.
