Rickie Lee Riddle

Rickie "Rick" Lee Riddle was born in Dallas, Texas, and grew up in Arlington. A proud graduate of Sam Houston High School, Class of 1969, the last class from the original campus, he went on to attend UT Arlington. From a young age, Rick was drawn to the railroad. He began with Missouri Pacific Railroad, later served with Great Southwest Railroad as the secretary of the treasury, and continued his career with Union Pacific, where he retired. Retirement never quite suited him, and he later returned to work with Stevens Transport.

Rick was most at home at his lakehouse on Lake Tawakoni. After retiring from the railroad, he moved there full-time and loved spending time on the back porch with a cold beer, watching the water and the world go by. He enjoyed NASCAR (especially Dale Earnhardt), baseball as a devoted Texas Rangers fan, and the Dallas Cowboys. An avid hunter and fisherman, he taught his family about the outdoors. Rick could fix almost anything-cars included. A natural problem-solver, he was intelligent meeting Mensa requirements, stubborn in the best way, quick-witted, and blessed with a dry sense of humor.

Music was a constant in Rick's life. He played keyboards and performed in bands with his brother Paul and son Matt. He loved The Eagles. Fourth of July gatherings at the lakehouse, a tradition started by his father "Buddy", became a cherished tradition. Inviting the entire cove and friends for music, tents and campers, bonfires, fireworks, and plenty of food was the norm. Rick continued this tradition as he loved to cook - brisket, steaks, and fish fries were common - as he and his daughter Jessyca created a special brisket rub together. He always had a boat, spent most weekends on the water, and loved to waterski. Rick's last days were spent enjoying ice cream with his daughter Jessyca and grandson Rylan.

Rick is preceded in death by his parents, Justin Riddle and Billie Umphress. He is survived by his son, Matt Riddle and wife Carol; daughter, Jessyca Riddle; brother, Paul Riddle and wife Yvonne; sister, Cindy Slay and husband Rick; grandchildren, Melina Erickson, Rhys Riddle, and Rylan Sims; and numerous extended family and friends.

Visitation will be Tuesday, October 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Wade Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Wednesday, October 8, at 1:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, followed by a graveside service at 3:00 p.m. at Shannon Rose Hill Cemetery.

Rick worked hard, loved deeply, and made sure those around him laughed often. His legacy lives on in the music he made, the lakes he loved, and the family he treasured.
