Ricky E. Charles passed away suddenly at his home on September 22, 2025 at the age of 75. He was born on March 2nd, 1950, in Hancock, NY. The son of Reginald Charles and Patricia O'Boyle, both of whom predeceased him.

In 1975, he married the mother of his children, Deborah Charles. They were married for 25 years.

Ricky was a well-known figure in the community. He was enlisted in the US Navy from 1970 to 1974. He was a very proud veteran. In 1977, he entered the New York State Police academy. He was a State Trooper, worked undercover, won 'Trooper of the Year' in 1995, and eventually became a Senior Investigator with the NYSP BCI unit, where he worked until he retired in 2006. He was an avid hunter and was a member of Ridge Runners Club #99 for many years. Ricky cherished the many close friendships he had within the club and its members. Ridgerunners was like a second home to him, and is now the resting place for his beloved dog Cooper.

He is survived by his beloved children, Krista (Dave) Newman, Chance (Amber) Charles, and Cody (Melanie) Charles; grandchildren Kelsie and David Newman III, Eric and Amelia Charles, and Kayla Charles; his beloved sisters, Cheryl (Mike) Makowski, Regina (Gail) Wrighter, Vicky (Ted) Cuvelier, Laurie (Dana) Ellis, and Theresa (Greg) Allen. He was also predeceased by his sister, Patricia Seely. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, including great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, September 27th, from 4-7pm, with a service being held on Sunday, September 28th, at 11am at Henderson-Biedekapp Funeral Home in Hancock, NY.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hancock Community Education Foundation, PO Box 819, Hancock, NY 13783.
