Ricky Joseph Patania, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away surrounded by loved ones on July 7, 2025, in Mesa, Arizona, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. He was 59 years old. Born on January 13, 1966, in Omaha, Nebraska, Ricky grew up with a zest for life, a sharp sense of humor, and an ever-present readiness for a good time. The son of Sebastiano and Connie Patania (deceased), Rick always valued family above all else. He is survived by his devoted wife, Laurie Patania; his cherished daughter, Valerie Patania; his loving sister, Lucy Cox; and his brother, Ed Patania.

Rick’s life took a pivotal turn in July 1996, when he and Laurie moved from Omaha to Mesa—a bold decision that brought new opportunities and lasting friendships. On November 9, 1996, Rick married the love of his life, Laurie. Their partnership was marked by laughter, shared adventure, and unwavering support. In 2007, Rick and Laurie’s lives were joyfully transformed when they adopted their beautiful daughter, Valerie, who quickly became the center of Rick’s world.

Rick spent approximately 35 years as a dedicated baker, delighting friends, family, and customers alike with his culinary creations. Later in his career, he transitioned to working as a cable and fiber technician—a change he approached with the same inventiveness and determination that defined his work ethic. Whatever the job, Rick would “Rick-a-fy” it, streamlining tasks and finding better, more efficient ways to get things done. His knack for practicality and creativity never failed to impress.

The qualities Rick will be most remembered for are his infectious sense of humor and his willingness to help anyone in need. He was the guy you could always count on for a laugh, a quick-witted remark (rarely censored), or a hilarious story. If a neighbor had a leaky faucet or a friend needed a hand, Rick was the first to show up, tools in tow, ready to lend his support.

Rick’s passions and hobbies were as diverse as his talents. In his early years, he loved to draw and had a knack for assembling bikes from spare parts—a talent that made him popular among neighborhood kids. He held a lifelong love of animals, always attracting critters of all kinds with his gentle spirit. A true Nebraska football fan, Rick also enjoyed fishing, NASCAR, and music, finding joy and comfort in the simple pleasures of life.

To all who knew him, Rick’s generosity, humor, and authenticity left an indelible mark. He touched countless lives, always making them brighter with his presence and personality.

Rick touched many people over the years in many different ways, and the family encourages those who knew him to share a favorite story or memory. In celebrating Rick’s life, let us remember the joy he brought to every gathering and the unwavering kindness he offered to all.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Following the Graveside services a gathering will be held where refreshments will be served at 1065 East Glade Ave in Mesa, Arizona  85204, all are invited to join us for additional memories and conversation.
