Ricky Slifer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crawford Family Funeral & Cremation Service - Edmond on Mar. 9, 2026.
Ricky Doyle Slifer, known affectionately as Rick to his friends and family, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2026, in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 73. Born on December 12, 1952, in Anderson, IN. Rick's early years were filled with the promise that would define his life's journey-a journey marked by athletic prowess, professional excellence, and a deeply rooted faith.

Rick's formative years in Duncan laid the foundation for a life of achievement and service. Upon graduating from Duncan High School in 1971, he was awarded a full scholarship for track and field to Kansas State University, where under the mentorship of coach DeLoss Dodds, he excelled in both indoor and outdoor events. His remarkable talent was evident as he consistently placed in the top five, with jumps soaring between 6'10" and 7'3". Rick's crowning collegiate achievement came in 1974 when his personal best jump of 7'3" helped Kansas State win the Big-8 Championship and placed him fifth in the nation-an accolade that would resonate throughout his life. Rick was inducted into the Duncan Hall of Fame in 2025.

After earning his Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University in 1976, Rick continued to build on his academic credentials, obtaining his Master of Business Administration from Oklahoma University in 1982. His professional career was as distinguished as his athletic one, with significant roles at Halliburton and in the Recreation Programs of Olathe and Overland Park, Kansas. His tenure in the insurance industry with Prudential and CMIC was marked by numerous awards for top sales, testament to his dedication and skill. Later, as part of Heritage First Wealth Management, Rick's guidance and expertise helped secure the financial futures of countless families. Beyond his professional and athletic accomplishments, Rick's personal life was a tapestry of love, faith, and community.

He was a devoted husband to Paula Slifer, his wife of 49 years, and a loving father to Sarah Clark and Seth Slifer. His role as a grandfather to Henry, Charlie, Penny, and Maddie was one he cherished deeply, taking immense pride in their endeavors. Rick's brother, Dan Slifer, sister-in-law, Suwanna Riley, along with their families, held a special place in his heart, as did his nieces, Pam Hays and Dana Royer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Evelyn Slifer.

As a man of faith, Rick's Christian beliefs were the cornerstone of his existence. This faith guided him through life's challenges and triumphs and was a source of comfort and inspiration to those around him. Rick's involvement with the local high school track team, where he helped high jumpers reach new heights, was a reflection of his desire to give back to the community that had supported him. Rick's interests were as varied as they were passionate. He relished attending Kansas State games at Bill Snyder Stadium, watching his children and grandchildren excel in sports, and traveling the world with Paula.

Those who knew Rick would describe him as friendly, loving, and faith-filled-a man who lived his life with purpose and grace. Today, we remember Ricky Doyle Slifer not only for his remarkable achievements but for the warmth and kindness he extended to all. His legacy is one of commitment-to his family, his faith, and his community-and it is a legacy that will endure in the hearts of those he touched. Though he has left this earthly realm, the memories of his indomitable spirit and generous heart will remain with us forever.

A visitation & reception honoring his life will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, March 26th at Crawford Funeral Service, Edmond. A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Friday, March 27, 2026, at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Edmond, OK.
