Riley Cones Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mountain Memorial Funeral Home on May 24, 2025.
Riley Nicole Cones made her grand appearance on August 10th, 2008, in Glendale, Arizona. Her family moved to Colorado when she was only two and a half.
Riley is survived by her parents, Joshua and Ashley Cones, and her younger siblings, Clover and Jaxon, plus a ton of loving family and friends. She will never be forgotten.
Riley was a true mountain girl. She always sought out adventure everywhere she went. Art was her passion, showing so much talent even from such a young age. She was so talented in every way. She could master anything she put her mind to. She played trumpet in high school and recently started playing the electric guitar. No surprise, she was a natural. Riley did very well in school; she was a junior in high school and had started welding. It was just another form of art she was about to master. She had practiced ASL most of her life and enjoyed teaching others. She was planning on going to school for cosmetology when she graduated.
Riley's love for animals grew every year. She started raising chickens at a young age and loved going to the zoo to feed the giraffes. Her interest in horses was growing. Playing with and walking her mini horses fueled her passions. She loved riding horses and planned to get her own riding horse soon, with a goal to be in the rodeo. Out of all her love for animals and many things, nothing compared to her love for her Boston Terriers, Beans and Porkchop. They were her babies. Like the rest of us, they were left confused and lost without her. Due to health issues and heartbreak on April 29th, Porkchop went to be with his mama, Riley. We have found peace knowing they are together now forever.
Riley had the purest heart. She didn't have to live with any grief or heartache. All she knew was love, and all she had to give was pure love. She was a great friend to everyone she met. She was everything a parent could ask for, a best friend, and an amazing leader to her younger siblings.
She was a great student, mentor, and community member. We really thought we'd see her conquer the world. I'd like to believe in spirit, she still will.
Riley's beautiful young life was cut short on Easter Sunday, April 20th, 2025. One of her favorite holidays, she loved to paint eggs and hunt for chocolate- particularly Cadbury mini eggs. She enjoyed a great weekend with her family. We had a great time at a concert the night before, then had a really fun Easter. Throughout the day, she was doing what she loved so much. Riding her quad (ATV) with her little brother. Riley was something of an " adrenaline junkie", always looking for a thrill. She rode these toys her whole life; she was so good and confident on it. She had her helmet, but accidents happen. They happen to anyone at any time. She left this world happy, so very loved, and smiling. Her impact on us all, and her beautiful shy smile, will always be remembered.
Riley had the best sense of humor. She was a girly girl. She loved purple and pink, dressing up, making silly videos, and playing her guitar. But she'd pull her hair back, throw on her hat backwards, and hop on her quad to go play and get dirty at any moment. She loved all types of music, especially country music. Her favorite song was " Country Girls " by Luke Bryan. We had planned on attending as many concerts as we could this summer.
Riley liked to do silly things just to make you smile. I think she will always be known by her peers for her little green babies. She got a kick out of hiding them around school, in cars, planters, or she'd just hand you one as a little gift. It's one of the silly little things I will never forget.
We are left feeling so robbed of our amazing girl. She had so many dreams and so much more love to give. She was so shy and quiet, but her love and personality were so loud. We need to live and love for Riley. I will remember and talk about her every day for the rest of my life. I will never stop saying her name. My butterfly, my crazy perfect little cowgirl. I love you, Riley.
"The last goodbye's the hardest one to say, this is where the cowgirl rides away."
